Proof of the familial connections we build over here at roccityradio, had Uncle Fester on for an interview and hit it off. We now have one of the hottest, old school shows on any hip hop radio station where my guy is spinning all classic vinyl!

ROCCITYRADIO, started as a mixtape over 30 years ago. This is the story of how that has transpired and grown into the current iteration that has been broadcasting for over 20 years. Growing up in the early 90’s we were influenced by the hip hop of the time. We’d listen to the radio and wait to record tracks to make mixtapes for our adventures through the city of Rochester, New York. The King of the North, Chris G was really all we had in Rochester. We would record his shows on Saturday night and listen all week to what he dropped until the next show. While his show was dope, we wanted more! DJ Supremacy started acquiring equipment to make mixtapes that turned into pseudo shows. Supremacy spun the tracks and B-Nutz was the MC. From Linden Avenue to Tobin Drive, to The Mini Mansion on Clarissa Street, it was always Supremacy spinning the tracks and B-Nutz on the mic. In 2000, we picked up a third member of the team, Sucio Sanchez. B-Nutz, Sucio Sanchez, and DJ Supremacy mixed tracks and put out tapes for our friends’ listening pleasure. It wasn’t until Sucio suggested and pushed us to get the show out to the people. Supremacy built a studio in his basement for us to take our show to the internet. We started out on PirateRadio broadcasting under the name W-NUT 69.9, a name that was thought to be a shoutout to a project we did in high school. However, it meant more than some silly bull shit. “W” being call letters the FCC signifies that a station is located east of the Mississippi River, NUT stood for something more to Supremacy always. NUT meant New Underground Tracks for the radio, but it was deeper when he disclosed it meant Never Underestimate Them. We broadcasted under the name W-NUT for five years before life sent us our separate ways. Through military commitments, getting married, having kids and moving out of NY, W-NUT and its greatness was always in the background never too far from DJ Supremacy, Sucio Sanchez and B-NUTZ’s mind. During COVID, DJ Supremacy had an itch that needed to be scratched, the music was calling him back. Supremacy started a new radio station solo, in recognition of the team’s roots in Rochester, taking the airport code for Rochester, ROC and came up with the name ROCCITYRADIO. This station was to play only Boom Bap underground hits by Underground MC’s and producers from around the world. Supremacy had a vision of not only a show but a radio station that would transcend anything and everything we ever did. To bring this vision to realization Supremacy needed his partner in musical crime, B-NUTZ. At the time B-NUTZ was on the other side of the world making broadcasting almost impossible. B would have to be up in the middle of the night, find a spot with wifi, setup his mic just to be able to participate on the show in its new form, under its new name.. “The Bars and Beats Show”! When B-NUTZ returned to the states, the 2-man wrecking regime kicked it into high gear! Through a year of shows, meeting artists through interviews, Supremacy decided to bring on talent that would bring the show to yet another level. He recruited MC, Mr. Ripley and Producer, Sinamatik to join the show after an interview that felt like we all had known each other for years. After 5 months with the new team, we added another MC, BX raised Rochester transplant, Crotona P. The greatest team on any show was complete! The vibe, the relationship with these brothers is different than anything you’re going to hear anywhere, breaking New Underground Tracks from today’s dopest MC’s and producers. The station, that started as a mixtape show, is now a true giant in this game, with some of the hottest DJs’ in the underground weekly providing content.
